On May 6. we celebrated our volunteers and their VIA friendships!
When Everything Seems to Go Wrong…VIA Brings Hope.
The City Code Enforcement calls VIA asking if we have a volunteer to help a woman with her yard. Too many weeds and leaves. If not attended to, she will face a substantial fine from the city.
The Blanket Exercise November 14, 6-8pm.
Join us on November 14, 2021 at the Table Public House from 6:00-8:00 for a hands-on exercise of the historical relationship between the Indigenous people and the North American people and how to move forward in restoring racial relationships.
4 Minutes apart
I scale the stairs up to the home of 97 yr. old De. She is going blind and is very hard of hearing. Communication is difficult with De. Visitors write on a white board so she can see their response to her conversation.
Burial Assistance Fund
Volunteers in Action has established a Burial/Funeral Assistance Fund to assist those who have an unexpected financial need related to morturay or burial costs for a family member or friend they have lost.
Blessed to be a Blessing
Blessed to Be a Blessing has been the theme of our 2021 Fundraiser effort. We acknowledge that all blessings come from our God!
Hope for Maggie
Maggie* used to work at the local hardware store until her 25 yr. old son became very ill requiring her care 24/7. With no income, Maggie had no way to pay her rent or buy food. Her case worker called VIA to discuss options. Turns out that Maggie lives one block away from Hope Fellowship CRC.
iPads for Rowan
We continue to stay connected to Rowan Care Facility despite the face to face visiting restrictions. We are thankful that in December, VIA partnered with the deacons from two churches to purchase three Apple iPads for their residents.
Safeway Paul Wears a Cape & Other Pandemic Superheroes
VIA Superheroes are “flying” throughout this city to help people in need. Calls received during this pandemic continue to flow into VIA’s office. Here is a small sample of what’s happening in a neighborhood near you!
Providence Brings Brothers Together
Ted called Volunteers In Action in July of 2019. His eyesight was deteriorating and he needed help reading his mail and could use an occasional ride to appointments. Ted also mentioned that living in his assisted care facility limits his conversational topics. His life lacked hope and joy in its present state. He wondered how he would ever get through it.
Two Huge Pine Trees Gone!
Sheila's home lost two huge pine trees with the June Derecho wind storm. There was no way she could afford the clean- up nor did she have the resources to begin removing the debris from her yard. Neighbors complained. The City of Aurora Cod Enforcement called Volunteer in Action to see if there was any way VIA could offer assistance.
