Coronavirus Offers New Beginnings

While the Coronavirus shut down our city and country, it could not stop a new VIA friendship. Claire and Andrea, matched in March, could not visit in person because of “safe at home” restrictions.  The normal introductory meeting would have to wait.

Andrea, a long time friend of VIA, needed a volunteer to help read her mail. Strongly feeling God’s direction to make a new friendship after experiencing recent losses in her life, Claire volunteered. She introduced herself to Andrea over the phone.  Their friendship naturally developed from there.  They continued their calls until Andrea’s needs grew throughout quarantine.  Claire didn’t hesitate to offer her help.  They ventured out to buy dog food & groceries.

Andrea:  “Our time together is not just about reading mail.  We hang out and take time getting to know one another’s stories. I love Claire and my dog Peggy LOVES her too!!!”

Claire:  “I love Andrea!  We both love dogs! It’s good to put myself in someone else’s shoes and experience life from her perspective.  I really needed to expand my circles.  It’s been such an unusual season (Covid-19) which allows me to be more available right now.  We’ve had plenty of time to talk and get to know one another without the demands I had before Coronavirus.”

Coronavirus altered time and life for everyone. VIA thanks God that Claire and Andrea saw opportunity instead of barriers during the quarantine.
