Two Huge Pine Trees Gone!

Sheila's home lost two huge pine trees with the June Derecho wind storm.  There was no way she could afford the clean- up nor did she have the resources to begin removing the debris from her yard.  Neighbors complained.  The City of Aurora Cod Enforcement called Volunteer in Action to see if there was any way VIA could offer assistance.

Upon first appearance, this seemed an insurmountable project for VIA.   After a few minutes of prayer and brainstorming, God opened doors of possibilities!  Cory Vermeer organized a dumpster drop off.  Donn and Sheri recruited 4 guys with chainsaws and 10 other volunteers with rakes, gloves and will power to clear branches.

On Saturday, July 11, 12 volunteers joined Donn and Sheri to tackle the huge project.  In addition to cutting up and clearing the huge pines, the volunteers also mowed the yard, wacked down weeds, cleared additional dead trees, trimmed live trees and picked up the yard of unwanted items.  Thanks to a lady's group from First CRC, the volunteers nourished themselves with treats and Gatorades.  In 2 1/2 hours, we proclaimed the job complete!

Sheila, her neighbors, the City of Aurora Code Enforcement and VIA wishes to thank all those involved in helping with this project.  We are incredibly grateful for all the hard working volunteers and their servant hearts!
