When Everything Seems to Go Wrong…VIA Brings Hope.

Claudia’s House

The City Code Enforcement calls VIA asking if we have a volunteer to help a woman with her yard.  Too many weeds and leaves. If not attended to, she will face a substantial fine from the city.  Claudia* cannot afford the penalty fee, nor can she afford to pay a lawn maintenance company to remedy the situation.  On top of everything, she is saying good-bye to her sister who is in hospice care. Her brother has been diagnosed with dementia. His wife unexpectedly passed away, leaving them all stunned and in need of finding new ways to support him.  The yard violation was the “last straw.”

VIA’s visit to Claudia brought her much needed hope in her very gray and busy days.  Not only did we discuss the work to be done on her yard, Claudia wanted to know more about our Christian organization.  She wanted Jesus back in her life and asked for a list of churches near her that she could attend.

Our volunteer cleaned up her weeds and leaves on a Saturday afternoon.  The code enforcement officer cleared Claudia of the violation.  And even though Claudia’s sister passed away, Claudia has a renewed hope in her community and continues to seek out Jesus at the churches in her neighborhood.

“Thank you Lord for gray or busy days, and even days when everything seems to go wrong!  In those times we trust You to brighten our lives with joy, give us strength, and sustain us with Your hope.”  Dayspring *Name changed
